As part of practicing lifelong good skin care, we need to learn that our beauty starts in the kitchen.

If you want your skin to recover its natural glow, you can do this by eating the right foods, and by hydrating. And when you use those same foods applied topically, you get a double-kabaam of nourishment for your complexion.

In line with the current Fall season, in this article we’ll be using all the Heavenly-scented, delicious fruits and vegetalbles that adorn your dining room table.

Foods such cranberry and pumpkin, which both have vitamins and enzymes that help slough the dead skin leftover from all those hours out in the Summer sun, are perfect for mixing together with other choice ingredients that bring about a glowing, healthy beauty you’ll love.  Always choose organic ingredients.

Before You Start

Cleanse your face, neck and decollete areas with your usual cleansing product. Pat your skin dry with a soft towel. It’s a good idea to keep a spa robe on hand for home facial treatments. You can buy them inexpensively at beauty supplies, and bed and bath stores.

To create a special at-home experience, light candles that are scented with Fall fragrances such as cinnamon, cranberry and apples. Use other calming tools such as soft classical music, sounds of nature, Tibetan bells or meditation CD’s.

Cranberry Scrub

Cranberries contain ellagic acid, a type of polyphenol antioxidant, that sloughs away layers of dead skin, and supports healthy collagen production as well.

Ingredients

1 cup frozen cranberries

1/2 cup cornmeal

4 tablespoons buttermilk

3 tablespoons honey

Preparation And Application Instructions

Put the cranberries into the pitcher of your blender or food proccesor, and process at high speed until they are very fine. Mix in the cornmeal, buttermilk and honey, and process again until the ingredients are thoroughly blended together.

Apply a generous amount of the scrub to your face, neck and decollete, working in well, using small circular motions with the tips of your fingers. To drive the scrub deeper into your skin, and increase the exfoliation affect, use a rotary brush or facial loofah to give it that extra boost. For those with combination skin, you can opt to use the rotary brush or facial loofah only on the oiler T-area: forehead, nose and chin, using your fingers gently everywhere else.

Continue working the Cranberry Scrub into your skin for two minutes. Remove using a warm washcloth, and finish with splashes of cool water to completely remove the product.

Pumpkin and Honey Treatment Mask

Pumpkin naturally posesses four properties that your body (most especially your skin) needs. These are vitamin A, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antifungal compounds. These are vital ingredients for soothing sensitive skin, rosacea treatment and redness. It also contains beta carotene that supports the skin’s collagen production. The result will be soft, hydrated skin that has a nice soft glow.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups of mashed pumpkin – fresh or canned

Two tablespoons of honey

Preparation And Application Instructions

Combine the mashed pumpkin and honey until they are blended, and the texture is smooth. Apply to clean and damp skin, including the face, neck and decollete, and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry with a clean, soft towel.

Fresh Apple Juice Toner

An apple a day keeps the doctor – namely the dermatologist – away! Yes, it can do that because it can help clear up breakouts, and prevent them from coming back As a facial treatment, apple has a powerful combination of acids that remove excess oil in your skin without drying it, making it a perfect ingredient to use in a facial toner. This toner is beneficial for most skin types.

Ingredients

1/4 cup apple juice, an organic, no-sugar-added variety

4 tablespoons witch hazel for noamal/combination skin OR rose water for norma/dry skin

Preparation And Application Instructions

Mix the apple juice and your second ingredient of choice together by simply blending them with a whisk. Pour into a clean glass jar with a tight-fitting lid, and refrigerate overnight. Use this refreshing toner chilled, after you use any fall facial treatment. Discard after two weeks.

Complete Your Cold Weather Facial Treatment

After removing all traces of the facial treatment mixture, use your Fresh Apple Juice Toner, and let it absorb into your skin for about a minute before lightly rinsing. Follow with serum and moisturizer that are formulated for your skin type.
