DIY Treatments For Dry Skin – Try Them Both!

Why DIY

I used to shy away from making home skin care products.  I figured they were too easy and too simple and therefore would not work.  I was totally wrong.  They are indeed easy and simple, and many times you have the ingredients on hand already so you don’t have to search far and wide to get them.  One of the biggest benefits right there.

These treatments are also highly effective.  In fact since I started using any type of homemade skin treatment, about a decade or so ago, I’ve taken special notice of commercial brands that feature fruit or vegetables as a main ingredient, and in fact there are entire lines of skin care products that start with the name, “Carrots”, “Cucumber”, “Tomato”, and many other common foods.  These companies are making these products with good reason – they do a great job.

Read on and you may find that whipping up a facial mask or a batch of moisturizer is far easier than you ever thought.

Bye-Bye Dry Skin

You can use one or both of these at  any time of the year, and it’s great for when you’re feeling stressed, recovering from the flu, living in or traveling to dry, cold climates or right after an exfoliating facial mask.

The skin care products listed below are easy to make, and are highly effective for moisturizing dry skin.

For those of you who do not have dry skin, it’s a still a good idea to use one of these preparations once per week to keep it from becoming a problem.  Note that you can spot treat dry areas as well.

DIY MOISTURIZER FOR DRY SKIN MASK AND CREAM RECIPES

Refreshing Moisture Mask

Makes One Application – you may need to increase the quantities if you want to include your hands or arms.  It can also be multiplied a few times to make a whole body mask – which is an incredibly luxurious experience.  

Ingredients

8 oz mayonnaise

1/4 cup orange flower water

3 oz jojoba oil

1 medium avocado, peeled and mashed – save the avocado peels

Preparation And Application

Using a blender or food processor, mix the mayonnaise with the mashed avocado until it’s thoroughly blended. Slowly add in the jojoba oil and then the orange flower water.

Thoroughly cleanse your face, neck and decollete. Rub the insides of the avocado peels over that entire skin area.

Apply the Refreshing Moisture Mask and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse off completely, then use toner, serum and moisturizer that’s formulated for dry skin.

Moisture-Rich Night Cream

Ingredients

8 oz coconut oil

4 oz cocoa butter

6 Tablespoons vitamin E oil

2 Tablespoons vitamin A and D ointment – you can find this in the baby care aisle at the drugstore

1 oz sweet almond oil

3 drops grapefruit essential oil

Clean glass jar with tight-fitting lid

Preparation And Application

Melt coconut oil and cocoa butter over low heat then stir in the almond oil. Add the vitamin E oil, the A and D ointment and the grapefruit essential oil. Pour into a glass jar and allow to cool.

Store in a cool, dark place for up to 3 weeks.

Note – you can use a mircowave to heat the ingredients, but be sure to keep an eye on them for proper timing.

Use this cream before bedtime after cleansing, toning and applying a serum. It’s ideal for the face, eye area, neck and decollete, but is also wonderful for elbows, knees and feet.
